Scrambling with Lakeland Ascents
Bridge the gap between walking and climbing and get your hands on the rock. Scramble up rocky steps, slabs, chimneys and arêtes to a mountain summit in the company of our experienced instructors.
This page is about experiencing a beginner’s scramble as a half-day adventure experience. We also offer:
Scrambling in the Lake District is great fun for groups and is also a really good way of tiring out the kids. It works really well as a half-day session, enabling you to create your perfect multi-activity day by marrying this activity up with half a day of abseiling, rock climbing, gorge scrambling (aka. ghyll scrambling) or canyoning.
Scrambling is also perfect for Hen and Stag parties and is brilliant as part of a team building day for corporate clients.

Great atmospheric scrambling conditions
Ages and abilities: We know scrambles that cater for all ages and abilities, from shorter more friendly scrambles to those high in the mountains. Under 18s must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian.
Group sizes and ratios: Generally, we run private, bespoke sessions for just you and your party. At busy times you might be part of a larger group. If you want a private session, then just let us know (there is no extra cost). We put your safety first so the maximum instructor:client ratio that we will work to is 1:8 – if your party is bigger than 8 people then there will be more than one instructor.
Venue: We will choose a venue that suits your aspirations and minimises the travelling that you need to do. In the Lake District we have rock climbing venues in areas like Coniston and Langdale, as well as further north in the Keswick and Borrowdale areas. We can also run sessions in the Peak District, in Snowdonia and in Scotland too.
Kit: We will share a kit list with you when you book, but all you really need are warm and waterproof ‘outdoor’ clothes and footwear. We will provide all safety equipment such as harnesses and helmets, plus buoyancy aids and wetsuits if you are joining us gorge scrambling or canyoning. All our kit is in excellent condition and is replaced regularly.
Times: ½ a day runs from 9.30am to 12.30pm or from 1.30pm to 4.30m. A full day runs from 9.30am to 4.30pm, with a break for some lunch, or to move to the next activity. We believe in bespoke, tailored sessions though so we will always do our best to work around your other commitments and time constraints.
