Cost: £59pp + £6pp landowner fee (group discounts available)
Time: 2½ to 3 hours – starting at 9am or 12.45pm

Ages: 8+ (this session is designed for groups with younger children – for our standard session (12+), click here)
Location: Coniston (click for meet location)
Difficulty level: 2/5 – everything is avoidable
Parking: Pay & display car park with some free street parking nearby
Kit we provide: Good quality wetsuits; full safety kit including buoyancy aids
Kit you need to bring: Trainers; base-layer t-shirt; towel/robe; dry clothes

A more relaxed version of the best ghyll scramble in the Lakes

Designed for families and groups with younger children, this session takes place in the lower section of the ghyll, with a fun journey upstream and plenty of exciting, achievable challenges along the way. Expect small jumps, easy climbs and lots of optional obstacles, with the freedom to take part at a level that suits everyone in the group.

If your group includes older children (12+), you may prefer our standard Church Beck session, which covers different sections of the ghyll and includes more challenging features.

This trip pairs particularly well with abseiling or rock climbing to create a full day of activity.

How fit do I need to be? Do I need experience?

A moderate level of fitness is required, as you’ll be moving upstream through a mountain river.

No prior experience is needed.

How high are the jumps?

The largest jump is around 2 metres, and all jumps are optional.

Do I have to do the jumps?

No - all jumps and obstacles are optional. Your instructor will guide you through the session and you can take part at a level that suits you.

Will I get photos from the session?

We take photos throughout the session and share them afterwards at no extra cost.

We did Gyll Scrambling, brilliant activity to do while visiting the lakes Kids aged 9&10, they love the outdoors and are fearless so they got stuck straight in and we all had a brilliant afternoon together Highly recommend if looking for something a little different to do

My 10 year old son and I did the ghyll scramble at Coniston with Mark yesterday… what an amazing experience… we both loved it, great bonding time, we did climbing techniques, slid down waterfalls, jumped into plunge pools, floated around and scrambled… I chose to wear my waterproof Hokas with foam soles … they were amazing buoyancy aids :-) which made putting my feet down a little tricky… but I could float like an otter very easily! Excellent knowledge from mark and great encouragement throughout, we felt safe and challenged throughout!
