One of many raging waterfalls to descend

This really is THE BEST canyoning trip in the Lake District, by a mile! Due to the extreme nature of this trip it is rarely guided by any other company. We feel however that it is too good not to share so we’ve worked hard with our best instructors to bring this opportunity to you.

Extreme canyoning is not for the faint hearted – this descent is all about BIG abseils and BIG slides down endless fast flowing, raging waterfalls of up to 40 meters high. As soon as you’ve braved one, another awaits around the corner – they just keep on coming at you.

They just keep on coming!

All this takes place in an inescapable canyon in a breathtaking mountain setting. This is without doubt the best trip out there for the adrenaline seeking water lover! This descent is so serious that we always have at least two instructors with us to keep things safe.

Extreme Canyoning is based about 15 minutes drive from Keswick. You will be sent full details on where to meet when you book.

Anyone aged 18 and above.

The highest abseil is about 40m. There are no jumps on this trip, but there is an almost vertical slide which has to be one of the best canyoning features in the Lake District.

There is a walk of approximately 1 hour to the start of the canyon. A large part of this walk is steeply uphill and you will be carrying supplies for the day. The descent itself is pretty 'full on' as you will be abseiling down big committing waterfalls, again and again.

Fitness is important for this trip so it's only suitable for those who are active and already into adventure activities. If you've been abseiling or canyoning before then this is definitely a plus.

There are no weight limits.

We have wetsuits sized from Junior 8 to adult XXL. You can view a size chart here.

If you have concerns over your fitness level, this may not be the trip for you. See the info in the FAQ above this one.

A kit list follows. We will provide you with good quality wetsuits, windproof 'cags', buoyancy aids and helmets.

You will need:

  • Change of underwear & footwear, as you will get wet
  • Trainers or boots (Neoprene 'water shoes' are not appropriate, neither are Converse style slip-on trainers or Crocs)
  • Shorts to wear over your wetsuit and protect it/your dignity
  • Synthetic t-shirt/long sleeved top (e.g., football shirt material) or a swimming costume to go under your wetsuit
  • Warm layer/jacket (e.g., a thick fleece)
  • Waterproof jacket
  • Warm hat
  • Rucksack (roughly 40 litres works well)
  • Large refuse sack/bin bag
  • Lunch and drink
  • Hand sanitiser
  • Towel

You will lock your valuables in your car. You car keys will then be locked in your instructor's car.

We take loads of photos and we share them with you for free.

You can bring your Go Pro if you like, but we have to warn you that people losing cameras and Go Pros in the water is extremely common - even when they are properly attached with the approved mounts. This probably happens at least once a week so we'd advise letting our instructors concentrate on the photography while you concentrate on having a great time!

We meet at 10am and finish no later than 4pm. This can sometimes be earlier if your group are quick in the canyon and during the walk in/out.
