Extreme Canyoning – the most committing descent in the Lake District.

This is our most serious canyoning trip, and it’s not for the faint-hearted.

Set in a dramatic, enclosed mountain gorge, this descent involves vertigo-inducing abseils, zip lines, a steep fast-flowing slide and technical rope work throughout. Some descents exceed 40 metres, and the scale of the terrain becomes obvious very quickly.

There’s no easing into this one. Once you commit to the first major abseil, the character of the canyon is set – sustained, steep and physically demanding from start to finish.

This trip runs far less frequently than our other routes simply because it requires the right conditions, the right group and experienced instructors who are comfortable operating in this terrain.

If you’re booking for a larger group and availability looks limited, drop us a message – we can often accommodate additional numbers, add an extra session or suggest the best alternative.

The largest abseil is around 25 metres, with zip lines of up to 40 metres.

This trip focuses on technical descents rather than jumps. There is one jump of around 3 metres and a vertical slide of approximately 10 metres.

If you’re looking for bigger, more committing jumps, take a look at our Esk Gorge canyoning trips.

All obstacles are technically optional, but there are no easier alternatives within the canyon. In most cases, choosing not to continue would mean exiting the session early.

Much of the canyon is difficult to escape.

We take photos throughout the session and share them afterwards at no extra cost.
