We meet at 9.30am and finish at about 3pm. This can sometimes be earlier if your group are quick in the canyon and during the walk in/out.

Anyone aged of 16 and above.

Any group members under the age of 18 must be accompanied by their parent(s) or legal guardian. Sorry but uncles, aunties, grandparents, family friends etc are not classed as legal guardians.

Extreme Canyoning is based about 15 minutes drive from Keswick. You will be sent full details on where to meet when you book. The lay-by where we will meet for your session is here.

A useful (rough!) postcode for planning purposes is CA12 4TW.

There's no real limit, as we just bring more instructors along if you've got a big group. If you want to book for more than 8 people, just get in touch and we'll set up this up for you. If you are a big group, then we may stagger your trip down the canyon to avoid you waiting around at unavoidable bottlenecks.

The highest abseil is about 40m. There is a zip line and 2 jumps - one small one, one bigger one! There is also an almost vertical slide which has to be one of the best canyoning features in the Lake District!

There is a walk of approximately 1 hour to the start of the canyon. A large part of this walk is steeply uphill and you will be carrying supplies for the day. The descent itself is pretty 'full on' as you will be abseiling down big committing waterfalls, again and again.

Fitness is important for this trip so it's only suitable for those who are active and already into adventure activities. If you've been abseiling or canyoning before then this is definitely a plus.

There is no weight limit but we do have a maximum waist and chest size, as our safety kit will not fit a person larger than this. These sizes follow.

Maximum waist size: 120cm
Maximum chest size: 150cm

We have wetsuit sizes that range from Junior 8 to Adult XXL. You can view these sizes here.

If you have any concerns, please contact us.

A kit list follows. We will provide you with good quality wetsuits, windproof 'cags', harnesses and helmets.

You will need:

  • Trainers or walking boots. Running trainers are ideal. Converse style ‘flat’ trainers & ‘water-shoes’ are not suitable.
  • Base-layer T-shirt (ideally not made of cotton). This goes under your wetsuit. A swimming costume works well as an alternative.
  • Towel or robe (to dry yourself/get changed under afterwards).
  • Dry clothes (to get changed into afterwards).
  • A warm layer to put on afterwards (fleece, warm jacket, etc.)
  • Snacks (a few snack bars for example - just something to keep you going)

You will lock your valuables in your car. You car keys will then be locked in your instructor's car.

We take loads of photos and we share them with you for free.

You can bring your Go Pro if you like, but we have to warn you that people losing cameras and Go Pros in the water is extremely common - even when they are properly attached with the approved mounts. This probably happens at least once a week so we'd advise letting our instructors concentrate on the photography while you concentrate on having a great time!

It was very windy today. The team were great and had a plan B arranged for us which was brilliant (and safer!).
Had a great experience Ghyll scrambling. Despite there being a rather large number of us (22 on a stag do) the guides were great throughout and clear experienced. Really enjoyed the experience and would book again.

Had an excellent time canyoning with Si! Booked by my partner who is much more adventurous than me but we both had an amazing time. There was one jump I was too scared to do and Si made an adjustment allowing me to continue with the journey in a way I felt comfortable. If you're thinking about booking this but are scared to take the plunge, my advice is go for it!!

We had brilliant fun doing the ghyll scrambling with Si this morning at Stickle Ghyll. We were really well kitted out so soon forgot about the damp, chilly morning and had a fantastic time with lots of laughs and challenges along the way. The kids are already planning for when they can do their next ghyll scrambling adventure!

My husband had an awesome afternoon Ghyll Scrambling in Coniston. Our son bought him a voucher for his birthday and I've never seen him grin so much when he came home wet and exhausted. I would highly recommend
