Outdoor activities are becoming increasingly popular for Stag and Hen parties; the Lake District is a favourite venue for those looking to get some fresh air, experience some adrenaline and head into the excellent local pubs as opposed to the bars and clubs of the city. In this article, we’ll share our advice on what makes a great day out with us and therefore what the best Lake District activities are for Stag and Hen parties!
Want to know how great our activities are? Check out our Trip Advisor reviews before you book.
Decision 1 – wet or dry?
Working out whether you want to get wet (intentionally!) is the first thing that you need to figure out as this will influence which Lake District activities for Stag or Hen parties work best for you. Wet activities are gorge scrambling and canyoning (find out the difference here) – dry activities are abseiling, rock climbing, rock scrambling and the Lakeland Legend Challenge.
Decision 2 – is anyone really scared of heights?
When we say ‘really scared’ we mean, like terrified! Most of us are apprehensive of heights – that’s normal, but there is a difference between a slight increased heart rate and shear fear! Here’s a list of our Lake District activities vs the height thing:
- Gorge scrambling in Stickle Ghyll, Langdale and Stoneycroft Ghyll, Keswick – no heights of significance
- Gorge scrambling in Church Beck, Coniston – some heights but all avoidable
- Canyoning in Church Beck, Coniston – jumping from heights of up to about 6m and abseiling down a waterfall of about 15m
- Canyoning in Esk Gorge – big jumps from big heights
- Extreme Canyoning – big abseils down big waterfalls from big heights!
- The Lakeland Legend Challenge – lots of VERY big heights!
- Abseiling and rock climbing – heights (obviously)
- Rock scrambling – you’re going to be ‘up high’ but mostly the drop won’t be immediately under you. Maybe a 5/10 (10 being high!)
Decision 3 – full or ½ day?
A full day of Lake District activities will keep you out of the pub for longer and make that first beer taste even better. You can do 2 x ½ day activities to make a full day of adventure but there will be a short drive between venues at lunch. Full day Lake District activities for Stag and Hen parties are the Esk, Extreme Canyoning and the Lakeland Legend Challenge. Timings for all activities can be found on the relevant pages with a short scroll. ½ day activities start at 9am and 1pm. Full day activities vary.
Decision 4 – location
Again, have a quick scroll on the relevant pages to find specific location info. Canyoning in Esk Gorge is the longest drive generally as it’s in the remote west Lake District, but it’s SO worth it.
Decision 5 – group size
We don’t have a limit for group sizes for Lake District activities. Bring as many as you want! Just let us know ASAP if your numbers increase or decrease and make sure you do this within the timescales set out in our Terms & Conditions.
Decision 6 – price
Obviously a full day of Lake District activities costs more than ½ a day of activities but they also represent better value. For groups of 20+ we offer a 15% discount.
How to book
On each page there is a blue Book Now button which will allow you to book online. You need to pay a 30% deposit if your event is more than 6 weeks away, with the remainder being due 6 weeks before the event date. We can’t reserve dates without payment. Payment can be made by credit or debit card or by BACS. For groups of more than 10 contact us first and we’ll make the space available for you to book as these group sizes need a slight tweak to our booking system.
